A study published today found more than 88% of staff at five newly-opened aged care homes said they had witnessed or suspected abuse in nursing homes where they had previously worked. Of these, 92.7% were previously employed in nursing homes for older people with dementia and 7.3% had worked in nursing homes for older people.

A female mental health patient is alleged to have caused a fire at Robina Hospital at the weekend with a hidden cigarette lighter. Gold Coast Health said 16 patients and “multiple staff” were safely evacuated after a fire in the acute mental health ward about 3am on Sunday.

Yvonne Tebbutt has got the NSW Workers Compensation Commission to force the State of New South Wales – Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (incorrectly sued as Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital) to reassess her injury claim. Ms Tebbutt has developed a consequential condition, namely fibromyalgia, which allegedly results from her accepted primary psychological injury.
