The man who lured, raped and murdered outback nurse Gayle Woodford has lost his bid to have his jail sentence reduced. Dudley Davey was sentenced to life imprisonment with a non-parole period of 32 years for murdering and raping Ms Woodford and stealing her ambulance in South Australia’s APY Lands in March last year. The sentencing judge said it was a cold-blooded murder of a woman who worked with skill and compassion in the community. Davey lodged an appeal against his sentence arguing it was manifestly excessive and he should have been given a greater discount for his guilty pleas. The timing of Davey’s pleas entitled him to a potential discount of up to 30 per cent under South Australian legislation.
