Regis Sunraysia was facing a potential mass evacuation of its aged- care residents last night after a fire broke out yesterday afternoon. Six CFA and Fire Rescue Victoria trucks from Mildura, Irymple, Red Cliffs and Merbein attended the fire at the Tenth St facility, which is understood to have started in the building’s airconditioning system. The structure of the building was being assessed last night, with Mildura Base Public Hospital preparing to free up multiple beds after a Code Brown alert for an external emergency was issued. Two residents were earlier transported to Mildura Base Public Hospital, while a further 10 were transported to the Regis Ontario facility. It’s understood residents had been orginally been cleared to return, but the building’s structure was being reassessed.
