Mary Gamble, a former Dunedin midwife and outspoken health board member, has died. The “midwife to thousands of Dunedin families, and defiant ex-district health board member” had had a long battle with cancer.

A Cape York nurse has been charged with fraud after allegedly stealing morphine from her workplace. Police will allege the 41-year-old woman entered false information into a drug register to steal the drugs at a Weipa medical facility. She will appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on January 29 charged with two counts of fraud.

A nurse has been stood down from his hospital job in northern WA following an expletive-filled, racist rant on social media that threatened violence against children. On a Broome community Facebook page on Friday night, nurse Kevin Naughton responded to comments about children breaking into homes in the town. “Just f***ing bash them within an inch of their useless, worthless lives, they are nothing more than rats or cockroaches,” he wrote.

A 13-year-old boy died from an allergic reaction after eating breakfast at a Melbourne hospital, his mother has told an inquest, while a nurse has admitted his allergies were not properly recorded. The circumstances of his death, at Frankston Hospital in Melbourne’s outer south-east, is being investigated in the Coroners Court of Victoria.
