Detectives have charged a 51-year-old man with arson over a fire at a Bacchus Marsh retirement village. The man, from Bacchus Marsh, has been charged with one count of arson and was remanded in custody to appear at Ballarat Magistrates’ Court today. The charge follows a fire at the Gisborne Rd address, near Masons Lane, at 11.45pm yesterday. A number of residents were treated for smoke inhalation. One man went to hospital with lacerations suffered during the incident.
