Forty-four new nurses and midwives began orientation at the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service yesterday. About 60 per cent of the group — the second intake for 2018 — are under 25, with the youngest aged 20 and oldest over 45 years. They will be employed on 12-month contracts, with some working in areas such as intensive care, medical and surgical wards, or at rural hospitals such as Babinda and Mossman.
