Being spat on, sworn at or physically assaulted is not in the ambulance job description and nor should it happen. That is the message to the Townsville community in a new campaign targeting abuse on the job. The Queensland Ambulance Service today launched the campaign calling on the community to respect staff, because “there’s no excuse for abuse”. Paramedics will share their stories of violence and abuse on the job. The Townsville region reported 54 cases of occupational violence to the 12 months to June 2018, up from 50 the previous year. Already 38 cases have been reported in the 2018-19 financial year.

The Commonwealth of Australia (represented by the Department of Human Services) is facing a s.365 (Application to deal with contraventions involving dismissal) in front of Fair Work Commissioner Yilmaz in his ACT chambers (Nickam).

A s.394 (Unfair dismissal) application by Hany Attia citing Dr Nader Khodragha Pty Ltd T/A Back and Foot Clinics (Australia) has been rejected by Senior Deputy President Hamberger in Sydney on 24 April 2019. The case summary reads: “Application for costs pursuant to application for an unfair dismissal remedy – costs not awarded – costs application dismissed.”

Carers Queensland has opened six new offices around the state as part of its involvement in the NDIS community partners program. The organisation has been delivering the program, designed to help implement the NDIS locally, since 2017 with teams in Toowoomba, Ipswich and Rockhampton. As an NDIS Local Area Coordination Partner in the Community, Carers Queensland’s new offices opened at Ashmore, Logan, Eight Mile Plains, Capalaba, North Lakes and Maroochydore this month.

A s.185 (Enterprise agreement) application from the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation NT Branch for the Miwatji Health Enterprise Agreement 2018-2021 has been ratified by Fair Work Deputy President Gostencnik sitting in Perth on 24 April 2019.

Community and Accommodation and Respite Agency Inc will face a s.372 (Application to deal with other contravention disputes) in front of Deputy President Anderson in Conference Room 6a – Level 6 in Adelaide (Parker).

A s.185 (Enterprise agreement) application by Queensland Diagnostic Imaging Pty Ltd T/A Queensland Diagnostic Imaging for its Queensland Diagnostic Imaging Clerical Employees Enterprise Agreement 2019 has been approved by Fair Work Deputy President Masson sitting in Melbourne on 23 April 2019.

An application for approval of the Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation Enterprise Agreement 2018-2021 (s.185 – Application for approval of a single-enterprise agreement) will be determined by Fair Work Deputy President Gostencnik in his chambers in Melbourne.
