A federal investigation is underway into a disturbing incident at an Adelaide Hills nursing home. The incident involves two residents a nursing home at Strathalbyn, one of whom is a woman with advanced dementia. She was reported missing from her room by staff on the night of February 27 and was found naked a short time later in the room of a male resident. The door was barricaded shut with a wheelchair, a chair and an overway table – and that the male resident had a history of sexually inappropriate behaviour. The woman is the mother of a South Australian sporting identity. Under law, aged care providers must report suspicions of assaults and unlawful sexual contact. In a statement, the nursing home says it has notified police. ”We are committed to ensuring each of our residents receives the best possible care,” it said.
