A former Geelong nurse who was found guilty of downloading more than 1000 graphic images of child pornography is free to return to work as a nurse. A tribunal found that former care nurse Peter Omant – whose porn collection featured children as young as three – could have his nursing ban revoked after almost five years as it was a “sufficient period to protect the public”.

A former nurse is fighting multiple charges of professional misconduct including showering a teenage patient with gifts and engaging in a sexual act with another. The professional conduct committee of the Nursing Council is carrying out the prosecution.

A senior Bupa care home assistant who abused dementia sufferers under her care by dragging and pushing them – treating one “like a rag doll” – has been sentenced to 15 months in prison. Judge Davies in passing sentence said: “You believed you were able to do as you pleased – there was no-one else in authority, the residents were unable to complain, the staff was frightened of reprisals if they protested.”

A 40-year-old woman who allegedly pretended to be an enrolled nurse and treated elderly patients at a care home for more than a year has been taken to court. Artika Chand lied about her training and pretended to be another woman with the same name who is a registered nurse, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) claimed. She worked at Manor Court Werribee Aged Care, west of Melbourne, from August 2013 to December 2014 while she was not registered AHPRA has alleged.
