Nurses are preparing to step into wage negotiations with the Hodgman Government — a move which could have major ramifications for the pending Tasmanian State Budget. The negotiations come as the State Government prepares to hand down its third Budget next month. Treasurer Peter Gutwein is already warning pay rises could have a $100 million impact on the state’s bottom line.

Police are now investigating whether a massive blaze that destroyed a historic church in Sydney’s west was an arson attack targeting a stash of Easter donations. More than 60 residents at the Uniting Care retirement facility were evacuated and given blankets to keep warm. Two residents from the nursing home were taken to hospital and were treated for chest pain.

Andrew Gilbert has failed on three grounds to advance his unfair dismissal claim against the St John Ambulance Pty Ltd T/A WA Ambulance Service. Commissioner Cambridge said the application was dismissed because he had unreasonably failed to comply with Directions of the Commission, had no reasonable prospects of success and his application has failed for want of prosecution. Three strikes and he is out.
