South Australian nurses and midwives will protest against the federal government’s proposed changes to paid parental leave. The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation’s SA branch says workers will rally outside the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide to urge SA senators not to support the coalition’s plans to reduce paid parental leave. The changes would prevent new parents receiving the full 18 weeks of government-funded leave if their employer offers a more generous scheme.

Former top health bureaucrat Jane Holden’s long-running lawsuit against the State Government will come before Hobart’s Supreme Court this morning. Ms Holden was sacked as chief of the Tasmanian Health Organisation South on June 3, 2014, after an Integrity Commission report was released outlining nepotism within the health system. At the time of Ms Holden’s sacking, Health Minister Michael Ferguson said the Integrity Commission report did not prompt the dismissal. A writ lodged in the Supreme Court in September last year revealed Ms Holden wanted compensation for lost income, loss of the chance for consecutive appointment and damage to her professional reputation. The case will appear before Justice Shan Tennent at 10am.

Miss Susan Robertson has failed to enforce her unfair dismissal application against Regis Aged Care because she failed to cough up the fee required to have the matter examined.

Prosecutors want a Tasmanian aged care facility worker who took photos of himself with naked residents put on the sex offender register. The Magistrate’s Court in Hobart heard Adam Matthew Pettit was working at the OneCare Barossa Park aged care faculty in Glenorchy when he took four pictures of female patients in various stages of undress. The 32-year-old took lewd photos of himself next to the residents, the court heard.
