Insurance and Care NSW (icare) has appointed Stuart Farquharson as its new chief financial officer (CFO) to lead the organisational performance team. Farquharson will join icare from global insurer Zurich’s Australian and New Zealand general insurance arm, where he had been the CFO since July 2016. Before Zurich, he was the CFO of AIG Australia, responsible for regional finance in the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, and Papua New Guinea. In his new role at icare, commencing October 11, 2022, Farquharson will review and embed the insurance and care provider’s strategy within its organisational performance division and provide a strategic financial decision.

There are three new faces on the Waitaki District Health Services board. A Waitaki district councillor, a former Southern DHB commissioner and a former long-serving chairman of Te Runanga o Moeraki have been appointed as directors to the board. The Waitaki District Council this year advertised three vacancies on the board of the council-controlled organisation, created by the resignations of Mark Rogers, Andrew Blair and Andrew Wilson. Mr Rogers, who chaired the board, stepped down at the end of his three-year term for personal reasons, while Mr Blair and Dr Wilson cited workloads in their other roles as contributing to their decisions. Waitaki Mayor Gary Kircher said the council received “several strong” applications for the roles. After discussions in a publicly excluded council meeting, Melanie Tavendale, Trevor McGlinchey and Kathy Grant were appointed to the board.

Real estate financier MaxCap Group has announced that Adam Cook has joined its direct investment team as director. Cook will report to MaxCap’s head of direct investment Simon Hullet and be responsible for originating new equity investment opportunities with join venture partners. Bolstering MaxCap’s national presence, Cook will also be tasked with overseeing transactions in Victoria, South Australia, and Western Australia. Additionally, Cook will contribute to product and capital raising strategies, the broader direct investment strategy and manage key relationships with industry participants. Cook will be based in Melbourne. Cook brings with him more than 17 years of real estate investment and development experience across multiple asset classes. He’s held various roles as both developer/investor and financier to equity partners, financiers, and government authorities. He joins MaxCap from Wingate Group where he was a director. Prior to this, he worked for Australian Unity as general manager commercial in their retirement village and residential aged care division.
