Euthanasia allegations have been made during a probe into a terminally ill woman’s death at a Tablelands aged care facility as her family sat in court with her ashes. Stella Hamilton, 72, had been in palliative care at the Malanda Ozcare centre when she was found dead in 2016 with her sheet and blanket covering her face, raising questions about whether or not it was done deliberately. The Cairns Coroners Court heard that Mrs Hamilton’s daughter Fiona Hamilton, who was at the centre when she died, allegedly told a nurse, “Hamish told me that if we cover her face … she will go quicker.” Ms Hamilton and her brother Hamish, who gave evidence yesterday, denied this.
