An $18 million boost for the NSW Ambulance Service will help support mental health, wellbeing and resilience programs for paramedics, the head of the service says. The state government on Wednesday announced the new funding after a year of union negotiations. It means the income of paramedics will be protected for at least five years if they are injured at work. NSW Ambulance Service Commissioner Dominic Morgan said the funds mean paramedics would be provided with access to specialised health services to prevent injuries. Health Services Union secretary Gerard Hayes said the additional funding was long overdue.
