A wheelchair-bound woman claims she was victim of a traumatic assault at the hands of an elderly woman in Geelong hospital. Julie, who did not want her surname published, was recovering from having a fistula made for dialysis when she says she was set upon by an elderly patient with dementia. The elderly patient grabbed Julie’s arm — still tender from the fistula procedure — while the pair were in a room where Julie had been watching television. The elderly woman later kicked her wheelchair and bashed her with an umbrella in the head and neck, Julie said. Barwon Health has labelled the situation “unfortunate” and apologised for the distress caused by the February 14 incident.
