A Townsville doctor charged with rape remains in custody, with no application made for bail in court today. The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested on Friday and charged with eight counts of rape and a domestic violence offence of attempting to pervert justice. He is also charged with four counts of breach of bail conditions. Defence solicitor Zoe Navarro told Townsville Magistrates’ Court that she was awaiting further instructions regarding an application for bail. Police will allege one of the rapes was committed against a patient inside a medical clinic in 2012. The court heard the doctor is due to face court on other charges on April 3. The matter was adjourned until then.
