A savage attack has taken place against paramedics and police in Townsville after they tried to help a woman. About 6.30pm yesterday paramedics from the Queensland Ambulance Service were called to units in Ralston St, West End to reports a woman was having a mental breakdown. She was treated as an involuntary patient — which allows authorities to handle patients without consent. As she was being taken away by the ambulance crew family members and friends of the woman attacked. A 45-year-old male paramedic was punched in the face and placed in a headlock. His 23-year female partner was punched in the back of her head. District duty officer Senior Sergeant Scot Warrick said police were called for assistance. “When they arrived at the scene the group also attacked police. “A female constable was struck in the face with a closed first.” It’s believed the first responders did not sustain serious injuries.
