A man who stole a mobility scooter from a woman with a disability before letting his dog maul a police officer in Canberra’s south has been jailed for more than three years. Authorities first arrived at the home of Matthew Millard, in the suburb of Rivett, last year while investigating the theft of the mobility scooter at Cooleman Court shopping centre. While interviewing him, however, detectives voiced concerns – recorded on tape – about Millard’s pitbull.“Dog’s not going to jump out on us, is he?” one officer can be heard in the recording. “Nah, nah he’s alright,” Millard replied. Moments later, the dog attacked the police – causing one female officer injuries so extensive that she had to be rushed to Canberra Hospital to receive treatment.
