A man accused of spitting on two ambulance officers after being found unconscious on the side of a Kuranda street is expected to fight the charges. William Wallace Barnes, 21, was granted bail after appearing in Cairns Magistrates Court yesterday charged with two counts of assault on a public officer. He was ordered to live with his mother in Kuranda and report to police each week while on bail and will also undergo disease testing. His solicitor Fabia Parker told the court he planned to contest the charges and the circumstances around the alleged assaults were “unusual”.
